What happens when matter ceases to obey intention and opens itself up to the unexpected?
From this tension between control and drift, between design and transformation, comes Inseguire l’Inatteso (Chasing the Unexpected): a group exhibition at SPARC*–Spazio Arte Contemporanea that brings together recent works by Stefano Cescon, Damiano Colombi and Alberto Scodro.
The exhibition features around fifteen works: from Colombi's large abstract paintings in acrylic and wax to Cescon's three-dimensional layers of wax and paraffin, to Scodro's sculptures, composed of silica, pigments and metals that evoke geological suggestions.
Curated by Luca Berta, Daniele Capra and Francesca Giubilei, the exhibition stems from an open dialogue with the artists on the profound link between the practical execution and the conceptual dimension of artistic research. At the heart of the exhibition is an investigation into the transformative processes of art, where a moment of chance often emerges that escapes the artist's control. Whether it is an infinitesimal instant or a prolonged phase, this “blind spot” mixes with the artist's intentions, becoming decisive for the final outcome.
Inseguire l'inatteso (Chasing the Unexpected) brings together three voices that have been able to integrate the unexpected into their creative method. The accidental event ceases to be an error and is metabolised and governed as an expressive factor. Welcoming the unexpected requires a specific attitude: the ability to recognise a result different from the planned one as desirable, reprogramming one's expressive needs according to a new, unexpected direction.
