From 30 October to 30 November, the National Archaeological Museum of Venice – part of the National Archaeological Museums of Venice and the Lagoon – will host the exhibition ArcheoMateria by artist and designer Michela Cattai, curated by Francesca Giubilei, with the participation of glass historian Rosa Barovier Mentasti.
The exhibition is the result of the encounter between Cattai's contemporary research and the Museum's prestigious permanent collection, transforming the exhibition rooms into a veritable poetic laboratory, where matter, form, light and memory intertwine.
The exhibition features over twenty glass works created by the artist in recent years, with the aim of exploring the relationship between contemporary glass and classical statuary. The history of the Museum, which is linked to Venice's tradition of collecting and its relationship with antiquity, thus meets the Murano glassmaking tradition, which has made the city a centre of artistic excellence since the 15th century.
The set-up, designed by the artist, is created by CIMENTO, an Italian company operating in the field of design and architecture, developing innovative materials that combine functionality, sustainability and expressive qualities, thanks to research into deep, textured materials and sophisticated colours. The inaugural event is sponsored by Terre D'Aenòr.
