ODYSSEY. LA DANZA DELLE BASILISSE
The Museo Archeologico Provinciale Michele La Cava in Potenza presents Odyssey. La danza delle Basilisse, an exhibition produced as part of the Piano Arte Contemporanea 2025 by the Directorate General for Contemporary Creativity of the Italian Ministry of Culture.
The project brings 12 works by g. olmo stuppia into dialogue with the museum's permanent collection, creating an immersive display that moves across sculpture, photography, experimental film, sound and textile installation. The works — among them J'suis pas désolée (Desole saga, 2018 – on going), the large sail, two site-specific videos and various sculptural and photographic elements — are acquired by the museum on the occasion of PAC 2025, opening a structural dialogue between archaeological artefact and the present, between Lucanian roots and global and Italian diaspora.
At the heart of the project lies a dialogue with the masterpieces of the collection: the Kouros of Metaponto and the Venus of Garaguso become privileged interlocutors in a journey that explores the idea of the fragment, the fascination with boundary-crossing, and a deep critique of mechanisms of capture, surveillance and diaspora.
Odyssey is the final chapter of a nomadic trajectory that has passed through New York, Naples, Milan and Venice — the artist's adopted home and an icon of depopulation: a path that activates the Cassata Drone Expanded Archive and transforms migrant memory into transmedial narrative, positioning the Museo Michele La Cava within a long-term cultural constellation.
