Like an elegiac rhapsody, "Marrying the Night" is a catasterism, generating stars: fabric sculptures, photographs, collaborations with other artists. The exhibition of the Sicilian-Milanese artist, Venetian by adoption, is the second solo show of international scope organized in Venice, and the fourth in Italy; curated by Giuseppe Amedeo Arnesano, Elena Cera and Giulia Gelmi, it intends to immerse the public in an environment populated by fabric and clay sculptures, as well as in the video-work "Marrying the Night Ep. V" in 4K, shot with Flir Camera and edited by Domenico Palmeri and Gerardo Brentari.
The intense exhibition work, set up at SPUMA Space for the Arts, a former brewery on the island of Giudecca in Venice, will open on Friday, February 21, 2025, from 6 to 9 p.m.
The project presents the film together with a cycle of sculptures and photographs, in anenvironment of alternating light and darkness. The exhibition aims to make explicit Stuppia's choices of color and form, plastically synthesized in the fifth episode of "Marrying the Night", a cycle created in 2022 as part of the Public Program of the Italian Pavilion for the 59.International Art Exhibition at the Venice Biennale, curated by Eugenio Viola.

Concluding the exhibitionexperience is a series of fine prints, produced ad hoc. The exhibition, equipped with two entrances, contextualizes the very architecture of the space that hosts it, making it take on performative value. The project embraces in an intimate form the deepest reasons for the massive emigration from Italy and all the Souths of the world, yesterday and today, through the mythological archetype of the journey and the landing on the island, stitching to the European èthosthe hopes of a “newworld,” unattainable. The landing place is freedom: it is achieved through drifting, stitching together, every day, the lacerations of socially and emotionally marginalized communities.
After Venice, the exhibition will stop in Paris, Palermo, Milan and New York.
The Milan-based publishing house Postmedia Bookswill publish, in Italian and English, the volume Katasterismós.A Drift Inside “Marrying the Night”.
